Summary of Operations

In China, BlueScope Steel operates three businesses: BlueScope Steel Suzhou, BlueScope Butler and BlueScope Lysaght.

Our operations in China comprise a metallic coating and painting facility which commenced operation in 2006, seven world class building systems manufacturing facilities, 32 sales and marketing offices and approximately 2,000 employees.

BlueScope Steel Suzhou commenced the operation in 2006 which is situated in Suzhou, 80 kms west of Shanghai. This facility is designed to supply China's booming building and construction markets. The plant can produce the full BlueScope Steel range of coated products, including the premium brands; Clean COLORBOND® steel and ZINCALUME® steel. It has a production capacity of 250,000 tonnes of metallic coated steel and 150,000 tonnes of painted steel per annum.

BlueScope Steel China now holds the number one position in pre-engineered building and premium steel building products in China. Our relationship with Asia began in the early 1900s, when our business first began trading with China. Today, we are Australia's leading manufacturing investor in China.
